sunday

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

On may way home from San Diego this past Sunday, I stopped at Lou’s and picked up an Unbunny CD at Jimmer’s recommendation, especially since I ended up liking Hey Marseilles so much.

When I was paying, I accidentally gave the cashier my expired debit card instead of my new one. Some random guy who was standing next to the register said, “What are you holding onto that for, are you going to bury it?”

He apologized before I even reacted, but weirdly, it didn’t even occur to me to be annoyed because I also thought it was dumb that I’m still carrying it around. I even explained that it seems like whenever I think about getting rid of it, I don’t even have any scissors handy and so I just keep holding onto it until I can destroy it.

And now, here I am at home, where I have scissors and a card shredder and my wallet is four feet away, and I’m blogging about how I haven’t destroyed the debit card yet.

ono!

I’ve only played with this club a couple of times, but it’s good to see Scrabble people gettin’ some love.

Club 350 meets at the library every second, third, fourth and fifth Sunday of the month, and players of all ages and levels – while perhaps prone to some initial frustration – are welcome to play, Moss said.

…one of Moss’s first lessons consists of writing a series of words on a board – “on”, “ven” and “hyp”, for example – and asking his students what the words have in common.

The answer? Adding an “O” at the end of each word produces another word – as well as garnering the corresponding point values. Those that can quickly spot the answer may have an eye for Scrabble, Moss said.

vast potential for suckitude

Sunday, October 12, 2008

I already forgot how ridiculous the wind situation apparently gets here in the fall. Last year, there was so much of it that it regularly blew through my heater’s outside air intake, blowing the heater closet open (which, the first time around, got me out of bed wielding an oar), sending leaves, insulation, and heater debris all over the place. This is also why I had to buy a new patio umbrella last year. I kept forgetting to put it down on the ground on windy nights, and after falling over and breaking about three times it finally became unusable.

Nothing has broken or startled me out of bed so far this year, so I was feeling okay about things until the power went out while I was chopping vegetables for a ratatouille I planned to make in the crock pot tomorrow. About the only thing worse than darkness falling while I’m handling a very sharp object is the fact that all of my precious vegetable chopping time will have been for nothing if I don’t have the power to cook it all tomorrow. I’m pretty sure if the crock pot’s electricity is interrupted, it won’t return to its last cook setting.

Woe.

“and the burlington northern’s pullin’ out of the world”

Driving from Mojave to Arvin

If only I’d known about these train cams sooner. When I take the 58 between Mojave and Bakersfield, the windy driving conditions through Tehachapi keep me from train gawking as much as I’d like. It’s an especially lovely sight in the spring when everything is really green.
